We are offering for sale a Calweld drill attachment that is made to be mounted onto a conventioal lattice boom type crane.
This unit belonged to my Dad's deep foundation drilling company and has not been run in many years. I believe it is a model 55 which was designed to mount onto a smaller crane.
The engine is an International in-line, 6-cylinder, 4-cycle deisel, which I believe is a UDH model. I am told that this engine is the same engine that was used in the International crawler tractors and International Harveter agricultural equipment of the day. The power is transmitted from the engine via a Funk Reverse-O-Matic forward-neutral-reverse shuttle unit coupled to a 4-speed remote side-shift gear box. Output from the gear box is reduced via a multi-width drive chain and sprockets to the right-angle final drive ring and pinion gear housing, which turns the yoke through which the kelley bar is placed. This unit does have the hydraulic sliding base option, which allows for easier positioning.
This drill attachment was purchased by my Dad's company many years ago and has been in storage since. It was a very low hour unit, as the previous owner only used if for a few projects before they went out of the drilling business. We recently had a mechanic look it over to assess the condition of it. The engine was found to be free and a new starter was purchased and installed. He was able to crank the engine over. The next step would have been to go through the fuel system, but we never did get back to it. While this unit will require many hours of TLC to get it operable, it is beleieved that all of the major components (engine, transmission, gear box, final drive) are in loose and in repairable condition. While we do have a 4" square x 50' long kelley bar that would go with this rig, I do have an associate that has other kelley bars available to the purchaser of this attachment, for a price to be negotiated. It is presumed that all of the remote control cables and hydraulic hoses would need to be replaced, as likley would also be the hydraulic control valves.
This is a project that I would like to take on myself, but I do not have any intentions of going into the drilling business at this time.
We would be able to load this onto the buyer's flatbead truck. It does come with an appropriate lifting harness and rigging.
